Afri-CAN New School Uniform Programme

The Afri-CAN Charity (ACC) is pleased to announce the launch of the Afri-CAN New School Uniform Programme!  The ACC has been able to source the uniforms from local Philippi Township entrepreneur and seamstress Sylvia Memane.  Sylvia and her team are currently in the process of making customised ACC tracksuits for the children to wear who attend the newly built nurseries. Sylvia’s company SN Clothing was selected because she is recognised in the community for the quality of goods she produces. Camille Patterson, Head of the Free School Breakfast Programme and Nursery Rebuild Programme, has been overseeing the project and has chosen a high quality hardwearing and bright material for the tracksuits meaning they will be long lasting, comfortable and fun!

According to Gail Hinchion Mancini, Programme Director of Public Affairs and Communication at Indiana University, uniforms have been proven to have social benefits such as increased level of sense of belonging and pride amongst students.   The teachers at the nurseries are in support of this initiative, as they believe it will help make the children more focused from a young age and will maximise their learning capabilities.

The ACC is pleased to be working with Sylvia and her team at SN Clothing in making this project happen and the ACC is excited to see the positive impact the uniforms make on the under 6 years old pupils. Watch this space for updates to follow on our continuing work.
