“MO FIRE, MO FIRE”
Afri-CAN Eagles Football Academy is a youth soccer club based in Imizamo Yethu, Hout Bay, Cape Town. It has been running for the past 4 years. Afri-CAN Eagles have been ranked No.1 for Under 12’s, No.2 for Under 14’s, and No.4 for Under 16’s in the ‘Good Hope LFA Youth League’.
We met the team and coaches in October 2015, and were immediately impressed by their skill and enthusiasm. We couldn’t resist getting involved, so we decided to sponsor them for an initial term of 5 years.
The Academy is now a registered NGO. Providing soccer coaching for 125 boys from ages 7 to 21. All the players are registered with South African Football Association (SAFA).
The club was founded by coaches; Daniel Buyeye, Nzuzo Tsengwa, James Nazo and Mubuza Mndende. Gordon Ross is the club’s administrator.
“I wanted to get involved in some kind of community project. I got involved with the Football Club through knowing James Nazo, who is one of the coaches. He had been coaching boys soccer after school for several years, with no outside help or funding. He asked me if I could help them to get some soccer kit for the club, so I set up a Facebook group, and that is how the Afri-Can Charity found out about us. The rest is history.”
