4th February 2015 – One out of every two young South Africans are unemployed – the world’s 3rd highest unemployment rate within the 18 to 35 age group. Enter Harambee – An organization focused on helping the youth of South Africa in finding their first employment.

This remarkable organisation helps candidates that fall within the following criteria:

  • South African citizens between the age of 18 and 35
  • Have attended government schools or schools in the townships and rural areas
  • Finished grade 11 in 2011 and those with Matric
  • Retain no criminal record or credit record
  • Currently unemployed

Based on these guidelines, Harambee locate, select, train and educate these youths and then guide and support them, whilst working with local Human Resources Managers to match the ideal candidates with a position that suits both the company and the applicant.

The Afri-CAN Café is proud to announce that today an agreement has been signed with Harambee to provide catering services. For the next year, more than 15 Harambee candidates will enjoy a healthy meal freshly prepared by the team at the Afri-CAN Café in Philippi Monday to Friday. The numbers will continue to grow depending on the amount of courses being offered by Harambee.

The Afri-CAN Café team along with the team at Harambee work with an aligned conviction: that the country’s youth are the promise of tomorrow’s South Africa, and therefore deserve the resources and opportunities required to grow personal qualifications and build a sustainable career. We look forward to working together with this fantastic organization for years to come!
