WE ARE GIVING YOU THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE PART OF A MOVEMENT
CRITICAL TO THE GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT OF CHILDREN IN SOUTH AFRICAN TOWNSHIPS.

By giving as little as R10 (ZAR) per meal per child a day,
you can help us reach our target of 2,000,000 meals each year.

SCHOOL MEALS SERVED

SINCE 1ST AUGUST 2014

WHY BREAKFAST AND LUNCH?

MALNUTRITION is a major underlying cause of death in 64% of South Africa’s children under the age of five.

ONE IN FIVE children are stunted and many are deficient in the vitamins and minerals vital to good health and optimal development, according to UNICEF.

UNICEF also found that 11.4% of deaths of South African children under five can be attributed to low weight.

POOR PERFORMANCE in school and poor cognitive development are directly connected to malnutrition in children.

To tackle this important issue we created the Afri-CAN Charity School Meals Programme.

We currently serve over 1,000,000 meals a year to vulnerable children between the ages of 1 to 6.

We need to grow this to 2,000,000.

HEALTH

Our scientifically developed meal programme ensures that every child receives 84% of the recommended daily nutrition for their specific age group every school day.

LOVE

A child’s brain function is seriously compromised without a nutritious diet.

TIME

Children fed well early in life have the best chance to fulfil their full potential.

“Our aim is to ensure that every child in need between 1-6 years old has a healthy low-GI breakfast and lunch every school day during this key foundation phase of their brain development. We want them to be warm, dry and safe and surrounded by amazing teachers who help them develop healthily so that by the time they are in front of the blackboard in Grade R they are ready to learn.  ”  Camille Paterson (Programme Director)
