The Afri-CAN Café is proud to announce that freshly baked ‘CAN-made’ rolls are now available every day at The Afri-CAN Café – Philippi.
Mays’ freshly baked rolls are back on the menu!
The Afri-CAN Café team have now all been trained in the art of May’s bread making and are baking May’s famous rolls again.
For fun and to prove our freshly baked rolls were a little special we undertook two comparison market taste test surveys of May’s Afri-CAN rolls rolls over two days. Here’s the results:
Survey 1 – (6 x blind tastings)
Price | Weight | Size | Preference (Freshness & Taste)
Supermarket fresh roll | R 1,30 | 58g | 8×6 | 33.3% |
The Afri-CAN Café fresh roll | R 2,00 | 109g | 7×5 | 66.6% |
The results from Survey 1, showed that 4 of the 6 who participated in the ‘taste and freshness test’ preferred our rolls as they ‘tasted better and were more filling’.
After huge debates and discussion in the kitchen and after seeing the results from Survey 1 the team adjusted and improved our roll recipe. We wanted 100% approval!
Survey 2 – New improved recipe – 26th March 2014 – 8 x blind tastings
Price | Weight | Size | Preference (Freshness & Taste)
Supermarket fresh roll | R 1,30 | 56g | 8×6 | 12% |
The Afri-CAN Café fresh roll | R 2,00 | 116g | 7×7 | 88% |
Huge success, the 1 person out of 8 said their only reason for choosing the ‘supermarket’ roll was because it had more salt. We had nothing to say about that – each to their own!
From the 15 people surveyed over the last two days we were sold out of rolls by 2pm today. So we are now increasing our daily roll production to avoid disappointment.
More taste tests market surveys to come!
