The Afri-CAN Charity Nursery Rebuild Programme: UPDATE

On Monday 1 June 2015 the keys to the brand new ‘Stars of Tomorrow Nursery’ in Phillipi Township, Cape Town was officially handed over to the Head Teacher Vuyiswa.  The children are now getting comfortable in their new nursery.  Stefan Allesch-Taylor CBE, Chairman of the Afri-CAN Charity, said “We began the free school breakfast program for vulnerable children under 6 in August 2014 with a view to getting to an annual run rate of 75,000 breakfasts within a year.  In early 2015 we toured the beneficiary nurseries and determined that the comprehensive solution to the challenges facing both the children and teachers needed to be integrated with new safe, warm and comfortable nursery buildings, free school breakfasts and teacher training.  We are delighted that the ‘Star’s of Tomorrow Nursery’ has joined this program.

In 2014/15 we intend to provide these new facilitates, free breakfasts and teacher training for over 400 children and around 50 staff.  Equally as important this will allow around 300 women in Philippi to work regularly knowing their children are being provided for in this way at their nursery.  We will continue until every vulnerable child in the townships of South Africa has the same.”
