Professional chef Jody Theodore will spend the next 2 weeks training the team at The Afri-CAN Café, Philippi.
Capetonian born Jody graduated from the renowned Silwood Kitchen School of Cooking and became the head lecturer at South Africa’s largest privately owned Chef and Hospitality Management Schools – Capsicum.
Not only has he worked at various well-known restaurants and wine farms (Constantia Uitsig, Mount Nelson, Savoy Cabbage to name a few), you may even recognize Jody from TV. As a young boy, Jody was inspired and started his passion for food and cooking with his grandmother in their family kitchen.
The Afri-CAN Cafes train and employ some of the most disadvantaged members of the communities in which we serve. To join our team, previous experience in the hospitality sector is not required. Just a determination to succeed. It means we need the best teachers to bring the very best out of those we see with the raw potential.
We’ll be focusing on the following over the next 2 weeks:
- Costing our standard menu – finalizing recipe’s
- Training on how to use a scale accurately – units of measurement
- Training in good hygiene and safety in kitchen
- Improving existing processes and making them more efficient where
- Good housekeeping – general overview
- Help with ordering and setting up a system, and suppliers.
